Public Lecture ‘Mozart and Enlightenment’

On the occasion of the annual “Mozart Week” in Salzburg. I gave a lecture on whether Mozart should be seen as a “man of the enlightenment”. Drawing on core themes from his operas and some biographical facts, I argue that the answer is “yes”. More philosophically, I speculate about the role of music in thinking about the project of enlightenment.
